LEGENDS ON PARADE: COLUMBUS DAY, NEW YORK CITY

Historic and contemporary Maseratis led the 66th annual Columbus Day Parade on Fifth Avenue.

A nine-decade showcase of legendary Maserati vehicles, including five new GranTurismo convertibles carrying parade honorees, turned Fifth Avenue into a concours show field! Tens of thousands of New Yorkers had a unique opportunity to see and hear historic cars from Modena as well as the latest GTs from Italy’s iconic carmaker.

Among the Maseratis motoring up Fifth Avenue were some very special vehicles that helped created the Modenese brand’s legend.

•1929/1931 Maserati V4 Spyder: Powered by a 16-cylinder engine, this car set the world's speed record of 152.9 mph in 1929. It was re-bodied in 1931 by Zagato as a road-going sports car and in 2003 was a Pebble Beach class winner.

•1955 Maserati A6G54 GT Frua Berlinetta: Displayed at the 1955 Turin Motor Show Car, it was sold to Italian music legend Domenico Modugno. It won Best Of Show at the 2003 Villa d'Este Concours.

•1956 Maserati 300S: Winner of the 1956 Venezuelan Grand Prix. It was driven by Sterling Moss and later acquired by five- time world champion, Juan Manuel Fangio. In 1999 it won its class at Pebble Beach.

•1970 Ghilbi SS Spyder: One of 25 built, this rare Spyder carried 2010 Columbus Day honoree, Maria Bartiromo.

Maserati partnered with the Columbus Day Citizens Foundation via participation in the annual parade as well as supplying a GT convertible that’s being raffled, with proceeds going to the non-profit’s scholarship programs.
