Winged and wild Arancio Atlas LP 6760-4 Superveloce carries #4,099 and is the last of the nameplate.
The end of production of the Murciélago was celebrated, above, in the factory on November 5, 2010, with a special exhibition of brand’s most iconic V12 cars. It was followed by a parade in Sant’Agata Bolognese. A 350 GT, Miura, Countach and a Diablo escorted a Murciélago SV from the Lamborghini Museum during a symbolic “last ride” out of the factory.
On May 11, 2010 the last Murciélago (#4,099), an LP 670-4 Superveloce ordered by a customer in Switzerland, left the production line. It is the highest volume 12-cylinder Lamborghini model and one of the world’s most successful super sports cars.
In its first generation, it featured a 6.2-litre, 580 horsepower V12, mounted longitudinally in front of the rear axle. In the second generation Murciélago LP 640, displacement rose to 6.5 liters and output to 640 horsepower. This year’s lighter weight LP 670-4 Superveloce, rated at 670 horsepower, provided an impressive finale to the story of this super sports car. The Superveloce delivers incredible performance: 0 to 62 mph in 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 212 mph!
“For almost a decade, the Murciélago was the icon of the Lamborghini brand, and it was enormously successful in the process,” says Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini. “It embodies the pure, unadulterated values of our brand and is truly extreme, uncompromising and unmistakably Italian. This already makes it one of the legends of the sports car world. But the Lamborghini story continues. In 2011 we will take a huge step into the future with the successor to the Murciélago – with the most innovative technology and, once again, truly stunning design.”
