SARASOTA CAFÉ RACER TAKES PODIUM AT SEBRING!

Archie Urciuoli, driving his ’65 Lola T70 Spyder, holds off Doc Bundy in his ’63 Lotus 23B to win Legends Of Motorsports USRRC class and series title.

Bobby Rahal wrapped up his inaugural Legends of Motorsports historic racing series last weekend at Sebring International Raceway in Florida. Legendary racer Rahal assembled some of the world's greatest historic racecars for his signature series held on popular U.S. and Canadian sports car racing tracks: Barber Motorsports Park, Watkins Glen International, Sebring International Raceway and Circuit Mont-Tremblant. "Sponsored" by Sarasota Cafe Racers, Urciuoli runs his Weber-carbed, small-block Chevy-powered Lola in the Legends of Motorsports USRRC Sports Cars Class. USRRC racing predates the Can-Am years and was the first professional series for sports cars in America. Many of the great racing specials and modifieds, European sports cars, and even a few production cars competed in this exciting under and over-Two-Liter series. Iconic nameplates that competed in the USRRC (United States Road Racing Championship) between 1963 and 1968 include Lotus, Elva, Brabham, Porsche, Ferrari, Cooper, Cobra, Corvette, Alfa Romeo, Scarab, Lister, Genie, Sadler, Chaparral, Maserati, McKee, McLaren, Lola and Merlyn.

Archie Urciuoli’s Lola is race-prepped and maintained by Lee Chapman Racing, New Milford, CT, the shop honored by Bobby Rahal at Sebring with its Prep Shop of the Year Award. It was presented to owner and racer Lee Chapman, “for bringing dozens of impeccably-prepared cars to Legends of Motorsports events and for enthusiastic support of the series.”

"Sebring was the perfect end to our inaugural season," Rahal said. "We had our largest field of cars and spectators yet, and from what I could see and hear, everyone was having a great time. An event like this is how we want Legends of Motorsports to be remembered over the winter, so that everyone is marking their calendars with our 2011 dates."
