SHELBY GT350 MUSTANG: ROAD, RACE & RENTAL!

Mike Gulett blogs about Carroll Shelby’s 1965-1966 Ponycar Performance Portfolio.

Carroll Shelby was already a motorsports and street performance legend when he created the Shelby-ized Mustang in 1965. His Cobras and his involvement with Ford on the street and race GT-40 program catapulted him and Shelby American into the record books. He also created cars that arguably became the most “cloned” vehicles in history: Cobra and GT350 Mustang.

After road testing a 1965 Shelby GT350 Mustang, the Editor at Sports Car Graphic magazine had this to say, “It was quite obvious that this car is easily the equal of anything that Europe has to offer in the GT category, even at three times the price.”

And to back up these words, Shelby’s GT350 nailed the 1965 B/Production Championship in five of SCCA’s six divisions.
