CORVETTE CONCEPT: HAPPY 59th BIRTHDAY!

Chevrolet’s 1953 Motorama Corvette, the Concept Car that became America’s Sports Car, and still is.

On January 17, 1953, GM introduced a Corvette Concept Car at the Motorama at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City that would become America’s Sports Car. Fifty-nine years later, both the car and the hotel are still iconic brands. While they produced only 300 1953 Corvettes and it was not an immediate success, Chevrolet laid the groundwork for what has become an internationally respected sports car. In May 2011, the original Concept Corvette was photographed with GM’s Global design VP, Ed Welburn, above, in the Waldorf Astoria Grand Ballroom by Emile Wamsteker.
