New tm journal on the blockThis year's INTA Meeting coincided with the launch of a new bimonthly journal, World Trademark Review, published out of the UK by Globe Business Publishing, part of Globe White Page. This handsomely-produced title, a sister to Intellectual Asset Management, shares its clean, crisp style and layout.
The contents of the first issue appear to be firmly aimed at trade mark decision-makers rather than at practitioners; where the law is reviewed, it is more in terms of what it can (or cannot) achieve rather than in terms of "how to do it" - although there is plenty of content for the nuts and bolts practitioner too, such as the navigation guide to the Canadian Intellectual Property Office. There are also three 'avenues' to the EU's recent IP Enforcement Directive, which was supposed to have been implemented by 29 April this year - one being a detailed 'inside' approach, the other offering practitioners' and owners' perspectives.
The IPKat thinks there's plenty of room for this title, even in the crowded market for trade mark publications. He's a bit worried, though, about how to abbreviate it: "TMR" is already taken up by INTA's long-established Trademark Reporter. He also heard of there being some cases of confusion between World Trademark Review and Trademark World: let's hope the two titles are clearly enough differentiated so that even an easily confused Kat can tell them comfortably apart ...
