AMPHICAR MEETS CORVETTE!
The Corvette-powered Python may be the answer to a question that probably no one other than Dave March has ever asked: What kind of car can I buy that’ll run 12-second quarter-mile times and also be used for water skiing?
March’s WaterCar, Inc. in Fountain Valley, CA has come up with a modern era Amphicar that can blow the barnacles off a lot of fast boats and deliver genuine muscle car performance on the road or track. The original Amphicar, built in Germany between 1961 and 1968, relied on power from an anemic 43 horsepower Triumph Herald four-banger and electronics from Lucas, Prince of Darkness! The Python boasts proven Corvette power and state-of-the-art electronics.
The Python is a hot rod on the water capable, according to March, of 60-plus mph on the water, and mid-12 second times on the strip. On the street, he claims 0-60 mph in 4.5 seconds. Python’s powertrain utilizes modern bulletproof aluminum LS Corvette components and a slick Dominator jet drive.
Each Python is built-to-order, from its lightweight handcrafted stainless steel chassis to its nautical interior with Captain’s chairs. Purchasers can select from a seemingly endless choice of interior and exterior finishes as well a variety of Corvette engines. The price of a vehicle that delivers bragging rights on land and in water is not cheap. Price start around $200,000.
WaterCar's Dave March, has been repairing and building cars and boats since 1976 when he opened Fountain Valley Bodyworks. Today it is one of the largest (50,000 square feet) and highest-tech collision repair facilities in the country.
