Our man in Tehran, Ramin Salehkhou, organizes first ever classic car rally.
Ramin Salehkhou, a lawyer in Tehran involved with preserving and restoring the Shah’s exotic cars that survived the Islamic Revolution, is truly passionate about American cars. He’s currently restoring a Baldwin-Motion Phase III 454 Camaro and is heading a satellite chapter of the “Car Guys Who Lunch” (Tehran Café Racers) in Iran’s capital.
He recently organized the first-ever classic car rally that featured an impressive array of both European and American vehicles. The two-day Tehran-Shomal Rally from Tehran to Mahmoudabad (a resort city on the Caspian Sea in northern Iran) covered almost 400 miles. A ’69 Camaro and ’55 Chevy are visible in the photo taken at the seaside resort where they stayed overnight. Other vintage American vehicles included some Mustangs and Trans-Ams, a ’64 Impala SS, ’55 Cadillac and a ’57 Chevy.
Ramin Salehkhou is the President of the Classic Car Committee of the Automotive Federation, an organization of car enthusiasts in Iran who volunteer their time setting up events. Car guys, even those in Iran, just want to have fun!
