Corvette ZR1, Camaro SS and Cruze road racers spearhead the American invasion of UK’s annual speedfest!
There’s a whole host of reasons to visit the Goodwood Festival of Speed, but Chevrolet hopes to make motorsport’s most prestigious annual event even more glamorous than ever this year. Two new seductive muscle machines - the Chevrolet Camaro and the Corvette ZR1, will represent them.
Both of the US-built supercars will be wowing the crowds throughout the weekend, running in the event’s Moving Motorshow on Thursday July 1, and in the supercar run up Goodwood’s famous hill climb circuit on July 2-4.
The presence of the ZR1 marks an emotional return for the long established Corvette name to the European Chevrolet stable. Starting in 2010, it will be sold in Europe once again as the Chevrolet Corvette, rather than a standalone brand.
“These iconic cars, such as Corvette and Camaro, are clear indicators of how strong Chevrolet’s brand heritage is,” said Chevrolet UK Managing Director Mark Terry. “The fact that they are here, in Europe, being sold as Chevrolets is the clearest indication yet of the confidence that General Motors has in the Chevrolet brand, and the direction it is headed in Europe.”
In addition to the two latest performance models to join Chevrolet Europe’s product portfolio, both of the Silverline Chevrolet racing cars from the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship will be in attendance. One of the Cruzes will be run up the hill, with works drivers Jason Plato and Alex MacDowall behind the wheel.
“A couple of years ago, Chevrolet was a brand you wouldn’t have seen at Goodwood,” added Mark Terry. “But we’ve come so far in so little time that we’re now a brand that can stand shoulder-to-shoulder with some of the most prestigious names in performance motoring.”
The Goodwood Festival of Speed opens with the Moving Motorshow on Thursday July 1, with public access for the main event from July 2-4.
