STING RAY: ANATOMY OF A RESTO ROD!

Jim Toma’s stunning Corvette combines the best of classic styling with today’s technology, powertrain and performance.

At first glance Sarasota Café Racer Jim Toma’s ’64 Corvette looks like a restored and mildly customized ’67. Its ’67 big-block hood is the first thing that grabs you. When you look closer, you realize that this Sting Ray has not been restored nor customized. It is a complete handcrafted Corvette, utilizing a classic Gen II ’64 body, custom interior with Gen VI seats, tube chassis and modern powertrain.

Toma has managed to retain the look of a classic Sting Ray, while adding the technology, performance, ride, handling and braking of a modern Corvette. Supporting the ’64 body is an SRIII Motorsports tube chassis with coil-overs, Z51 Corvette brakes and power rack and pinion steering. Its high-tech small block bolts up to a T56 Magnum six-speed, sending the power back to a Gen IV Viper Visco-Lok rear with 3.73 gears. It rides on the latest Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 tires.
