BRABUS SL65 AMG: 200-MPH BLACK MAGIC!

One-off Vanish is a fire-breathing, pavement-pounding showcase for the latest in extreme tuning.

When too much isn’t enough, Mercedes-Benz SL adrenalin junkies turn to Teutonic tuner, Brabus for their latest fix. Founded in 1977 by Bodo Buschmann, its latest T65 RS package can turn a crazy fast SL65 AMG Black Series into a fire-breathing, tire-smoking road warrior able to leap tall buildings in a single bound! Both torque and top speed are electronically limited at more than 810 foot-pounds and 200 mph, respectively. Dial out the limiter and it can generate 1,047 foot-pounds of torque and you could peg the Brabus SL65’s speedo at 206 mph! And it’s tractable enough for daily driving.

The Black Series SL65 AMG is powered by a twin-turbo, 5.9-liter (365 cubic-inch), V12 with liquid-to-air intercooling. Rated at 604 horsepower and 738 foot pounds of torque, it’s the most powerful production Mercedes of all time. Brabus’ T65 RS upgrade bumps output to 788 horsepower and torque up to 1,047 foot pounds. In the Vanish supercar featured here, torque is limited to 811 foot-pounds.

A stock SL65 AMG will go from 0 to 60 mph in 4.2 seconds and top out at an electronically limited 186 mph. Once Brabus waves its magic wand, the sprint to 62 mph takes 3.6 seconds and to 124 mph just 9.8 seconds. Top speed is limited to 200 mph.

The Vanish  is a one-off “customer car” built by Brabus in Bottrop, Germany to showcase its T65 RS tuner conversion as well as the capabilities of its interior/upholstery facility. Mechanical and tuning modifications include a proprietary twin turbo system with a pair of special exhaust manifolds with integrated turbine housings and high-performance turbochargers. Four intercoolers fit beneath the

space created by the unique carbon-fiber hood scoop. The special stainless-steel high-performance exhaust system with free-flow metal catalysts was specifically designed for the Black Series power upgrade.

Newly programmed engine electronics with special mapping for injection and ignition coordinate the perfect interaction of all high-performance components and at the same time ensure that the engine meets strict EURO IV emission limits. Technology partner, Aral, supplied high-tech lubricants for the entire powertrain.

The Vanish was created for a longtime Brabus customer and its sporty and luxurious interior was customized in house. The power comfort seats offer excellent lateral support without constricting the occupants and are upholstered in an exclusive combination of soft and breathable black leather and Alcantara. The same materials are found on door panels, headliner and dashboard. Precision-sewn red seams add striking highlights to all interior elements.  Stainless-steel scuff plates with illuminated logo and a speedometer that sports the car’s name were also custom-made.

Custom comfort and convenience as well as performance components are available from Brabus for any Black Series SL65 AMG.
