Audi Sport Team Joest takes the checkered flag at
Le Castellet.
Audi’s 2010 R15 TDI diesel racecar ran the entire eight-hour Le Mans series opener without any problems. On the opening lap at Le Castellet, Team Joest’s Allan McNish overtook Stéphane Sarrazin in the Peugeot that had started from pole position and on the third lap, the Lola-Aston Martin of Stefan Mücke. From then on McNish and teammate Dindo Capello did not relinquish the lead. At the checkered flag after 266 laps, the two Audi drivers held a five-lap lead on the Lola-Aston Martin. The Oreca Team Peugeot finished fourth after experiencing a technical problem during the early stages of the race.
Team Joest’s only unscheduled pit stop was made just seven minutes before the end of the race; they switched to rain tires for safety reasons as rain began to fall. Audi Sport Team Joest used the 2010 Le Mans Series season opener as preparation for the 24-hour race on June 12-13.
