GOODWOOD 2010: ROCKERS RULE!

Guitar legends to perform live when Goodwood celebrates ‘Cars, Stars and Guitars’ at this year’s Festival Of Speed.

The hallowed Goodwood cricket pitch – where the rules of the game were written at the world’s oldest pitch still in its original location – will rock to the sound of 20 car-related songs at the 2010 Festival of Speed.

During the Festival weekend, July 2-4, Goodwood will bring the irresistible combination of cool car and rock star to life. An impressive lineup of rock guitar legends will appear with their own distinctive and cherished cars and guitars, and play memorable and unique guitar solos live for Festival

of Speed enthusiasts.

Founder of ZZ Top and avid car enthusiast Billy Gibbons will be one of the ‘guitar gods’ playing at Goodwood. He will appear with his amazing 23-foot-long CadZZilla, below, based on a ‘48 Cadillac. Gibbons will be accompanied by British guitar legend Jeff Beck, who will be bringing one of his own famous hot rods to the Festival.  Leading American blues guitarist Jimmie Vaughn, above with Goodwood's Lord March, will also be playing, and driving his pistachio green ‘61 Cadillac custom.

Other distinctive cars owned by rock legends will include Eric Clapton’s ’49 Ford custom and a wild Auburn Speedster owned by Metallica front man, James Hetfield.  Accompanying these rarely seen automobiles will be a display of the musicians’ personal signature guitars.

Commenting on the appearance of cars, stars and guitars at Goodwood, Festival of Speed founder, The Earl of March says: “I am incredibly excited at the prospect of seeing, and hearing, some of my guitar heroes performing outside Goodwood House, playing their famous guitars alongside their stunning cars.  It promises to be a unique experience not to be missed."

A display of 20 cars immortalized in each song’s title or lyrics will be shown around the Goodwood cricket pitch, with a troupe of dancers performing around each appropriate car as the corresponding song is played on a special radio show presented by legendary disc jockey, Johnnie Walker.
