Stuart Schorr, Vice President, Communications & Public Affairs, Jaguar Land Rover, North America, blogs about the Concours.
On the golf-course-turned-car-show, thousands of enthusiasts poured over some of the world’s finest vintage cars and racecars of every style and type. The crowds clearly approved of the diverse show field, clear blue skis and warm Florida weather.
A prestigious panel of judges, including journalists David E. Davis, William Jeanes and Ken Gross, Jaguar racer Brian Redman and Jaguar's own Mike O'Driscoll, Chairman of the Jaguar Heritage Trust, had to choose winners in over 35 different categories. It was no easy task as more than 350 cars had to be reviewed and scored before the trophies could be awarded.
At the end of the day, Gary Bartlett’s 1957 D-Type Jaguar, above, was awarded “The Most Historically Significant Jaguar” trophy. Mike O'Driscoll presented the crystal trophy to Mr. Bartlett as he revved the engine of his British Racing Green D-Type in front of judges and spectators.
EDITOR’S NOTE: Another longtime Jaguar racer and owner of an E-Type coupe and 1953 (Wingfield) C-Type, Sarasota Café Racer Archie Urciuoli, left, took a First in RC 2 (1965-’80 racecars) with his stunning 1966 Lola T70 Spyder, above. Archie is well known in historic racing circles and actively campaigns both the Lola and a GT-40. Photos by Dick York.
