PEBBLE BEACH: ‘FOUR DOORS’ STEAL THE SHOW!

Peter and Merle Mullin’s 1934 Voisin C-25 Aerodyne sedan was named Best of Show yesterday at the 61st Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance.

“Winning with the Voisin is the most special, significant, rewarding thing that’s ever happened to me - outside of marrying my wife Merle,” said Mullin, a 69-year-old financial services entrepreneur, philanthropist and self-described ‘French car guy.’ This is Mullin’s first Best of Show win in 27 appearances at the annual Concours. “I’ve been showing at Pebble Beach for nearly three decades and this is the greatest venue in the world,” he said.  “It’s the ultimate thrill.”

Gabriel Voisin built airplanes during World War I and changed over to automobiles once peace was declared. Between 1919 and 1939, Voisin sold more than 11,000 of his usually unconventional, rather expensive vehicles.  The distinctive C-25 Voisin, featuring a blend of French curves, highlights Voisin’s aeronautic expertise: The use of lightweight materials and streamlined styling.
