2012 PORSCHE 911 GT3 RSR: GENTLEMAN RACER!

Flying Lizard Motorsports, Paul Miller Racing, and Team Falken Tire 911 racecars break cover at Sebring test session.

Porsche 911 GT3 RSR racecars, still in plain white factory livery, made their world debut in preparation for next month’s 60th Anniversary Mobil 1Twelve Hours of Sebring Fueled by Fresh from Florida. The top-of-the-line model of Porsche Motorsport’s customer racing vehicles features extensive modifications. Particularly striking at first glance are the changes to the body: the width of the new GT3 RSR has grown by 48 millimeters. Built to conform to A.C.O. “LM” GTE regulations, the new 911represents the crowning pinnacle of a range of successful customer sport racecars based on the 911 GT3 RS (type 997) street sports car.

Continuing to power the new 911 GT3 RSR is a 460 horsepower, four-liter, six-cylinder boxer engine fitted with a mandatory air-restrictor. The Porsche sequential six-speed gearbox is operated via paddles on the steering wheel.

The nose and rear panels are adapted to the flared front and rear wheel arches, as are the doorsill and the wheel arch coverings. A new ducting of air intake aids in the car’s aerodynamic qualities. Openings in the rear side sections, from Porsche 911 Turbos, replace the air scoop on the engine hood, which is very similar to the 911 GT2 RS street sports car.

Four new 911 GT3 RSRs will be competing in the American Le Mans Series. The new model can also compete at the Le Mans 24 Hours, the FIA World Endurance Championship, and the Le Mans Series, as well as the International GT Open.

“Our customer teams can expect a technically mature, high performance racecar with which they will be highly competitive in international long distance races,” assures Hartmut Kristen, Head of Porsche Motorsport. “Our test program on various international race tracks is currently running at full speed. We are very pleased with the car’s performance and drivability.”

The new Porsche 911 GT3 RSR is priced at $533,000, including heated windshield, Bosch Memory Kit, thermostat needed for long-distance Kit plus four required transportation hooks ($657.80). A $5,600 Lighting Package is required for running in ALMS events and consists of: Xenon main headlights, additional headlight, start number lighting and cockpit lighting. Teams have the option to select a Bosch Memory Darab License at $5,100.
